Trainee Solicitor Jobs – More Competition For Jobs

The recent recession has meant the market for trainee solicitor jobs has become very tight. This has meant that many good students have struggled to secure a job.
The problem stems from two main areas. Firstly, many law firms have reduced the numbers of trainee solicitor vacancies. Secondly, the numbers of people studying to become a solicitor (via law degrees, graduate diplomas in law and the legal practice course) have been on the increase.
As a result of this there are many more students looking for trainee solicitor jobs than are actually available. This has lead to increased competition for most training contract vacancies and more and more disappointed people who instead have to look for other interim jobs or even change careers completely.
This situation, unfortunately, is looking likely to deteriorate further before it improves due to more law students completing the LPC each year than there are trainee solicitor vacancies being offered. As a result, there are not only this year’s LPC graduates applying for training contracts but also last year’s unsuccessful graduates.
Even worse is the fact that there may well be additional people applying for this years trainee solicitor vacancies who graduated even longer ago than last year who are still part of the number of applicants applying for new trainee solicitor jobs.
Whilst the outlook may be bleak for law graduates, there should always be hope and the current situation will not last forever. One thing is certain though and that is there will always be a need for trainee solicitors in law firms and therefore job vacancies will increase at some time.
