Examining Kinds Of Golf GPS Units Made Today

August 27, 2010 by Max Pigford

Golf GPS units have become very popular in the United States and are spreading now all over the world where golf is played. For those golfers who can’t resist the latest gadgets, these devices that promise to give you an edge, make bragging easy to validate, and make previewing thousands of courses possible are obviously necessary tools.

Knowing the distances from green to green, or from where you are in the rough to the middle of the green, is better than guessing and also makes it easier to select the proper club for each situation. Saved data helps in later assessments of which club worked best or how a hole could have been played to better advantage.

The benefits of having a golf guidance system are being able to preview a course, hole by hole and hazard by hazard, being able to get precise distance measurements, keeping score, and saving information like scorecards and the length of past shots. The course maps can also tell you details you cannot see, such as how a stream winds through the landscape or precisely where the back of a green is.

You can purchase down-loadable programs for your iPhone, if you prefer that to a separate, handheld device. There are reviews of these mobile programs online, which compare their features to the specific unit programs. One advantage is being able to email your scorecards or other data to friends or your home computer, and being able to post an exciting day or shot on Facebook and Twitter.

In making a choice of a handheld device or a mobile phone add-on, check out the features online and see how closely the application fits your locality and your specific needs. The amount of delay between asking for information and having it come up on the screen is a factor to consider; some phone applications take up to ten seconds to gather and display the information.

Replaying the game shot by shot in the Clubhouse later is much easier with the saved data in a golf guidance system. For example, having past scorecards and past shots in the saved menu can help you back up claims that otherwise might be dismissed as wishful thinking.

Golf GPS units come in many different formats, with options in screen size and brightness, ease of reading figures, fees and update charges, battery charge life, tools, and durability.

Tips To Make Your Golf Swing Get Better

As soon as you have got the ball very close to the hole, all that is left is to putt it so that you can move on. Seemingly easy, it gives some golfers a hard time. Here are four drills to improve golf swing while putting.

The one handed drill is the first one. Practice putting 10 balls using your training hand only. It assists you with focusing on your hands as it moves to the cup.

Next, the same putt, but use your target hand instead. You need to concentrate on your backhand as it goes to the cup.

As soon as you are practicing the above golf swing drills, you should really concentrate on the follow through, conscious and focused on the toe of your putter. Keep the face of the putter square to the cup. If it either turns away or points towards it, then it means that your hand is turning.

Practice putting with an eye closed. It prevents you from lifting your head too early. Some golfers do it. If you’re a consistent player you may try to put with both of your eyes closed.

You will probably assume that closing up your eyes will make it a challenge to observe where the ball is going; but, research has established an interference between the brain and the muscle control system when your eyes are open while putting. Keeping your eyes closed forces you to rely on your hands to putt the ball. And by using your sense of hearing you should be able to judge whether the ball has gone in.

You should definitely practice this from a distance of 50 to 100 feet from the hole. With your eyes open at first and then with your eyes closed. You will know that you can sink the ball with your eyes closed, if the ball goes in.

Another technique is to close your eyes, drop some balls on the ground and try to putt them. You just try to get the feel of the back and forth stroke. Repeat the same with open eyes. Did you notice the difference? If you did, attempt to fit in the experience as soon as you’re truly putting on the course.

The final golf swing drill to enhance your golf swing is referred to as the alignment drill. Put down two golf clubs on the ground parallel to one another. Now putt the ball. See if your stroke is aligned at impact. Also if it is steady on the forward and the backward stroke. Repeat several times, take a break if tired and resume the drill.

Who knows? But this practice will definitely enhance your golf swing and improve your game skills as well. If you can reasonably putt from short distances, it is time you concentrated on your long game, as it is also equally important. You may even win once playing eighteen holes with your buddies. Best of Luck!

Because an 18-hole round of golf can last five to six hours, taking a whole day out of a busy schedule, many golfers get frustrated and are looking for tips to help them speed up their game.

But to worry, if this is one of of the problems that you are having, then a solution is within reach.

Of course you might have to check to see if you are one of the reasons for slow play. Do you look for lost balls for more than a few minutes? Do you take 10 practice swings? Do you take a long time to putt?

If any of these sound like habits that you may have, then the first thing you need to do is try to break them using tips for putting, golf practice and other golf tips.

Let’s take a look at some tips that I’ve found useful in helping me play a game that is not only less time consuming, but more enjoyable as well.

Locate an exclusive country club that is rarely crowded and join.

Don’t play at a course that allows fivesomes.

Try to play during the week if you have a flexible schedule.

See what the golf schedule is so that you can be one of the first players out on the course, even it means have a tee time in the wee hours of the morning.

Even though it might take you an hour to drive out of town to find a less crowded course, it could be well worth the drive with your friends if you live in a metropolitan area.

Remember these golf tips if you want to play a more enjoyable game of golf and not have to wait 10 or 15 minutes on every hole because of slow play.

To play a leisurely and enjoyable golf game, it shouldn’t take much more than 4 hours to finish 18 holes, so remember these “fast-play” tips , and you won’t be one of the many people who don’t play because golf takes up so much time.

Galvin Green Waterproof Golf Clothing Today

December 9, 2009 by Harry Michaels

Galvin Green waterproof golf clothing today presents itself well because it is now one of the top waterproof (and regular) golf clothing lines on the golf markets. This company is well-known in golfing, especially in Europe, and is respected for the quality of the clothing that it produces by almost every golfer, including top pros. It also is known to make many different lines of clothing.

One look at the clothing reveals that the company is squarely focused on ensuring high quality in the material, fabrics and construction of each piece so that it does the best job possible at keeping a golfer warm and dry. Many clothing pieces make liberal use of Gore-Tex shells and other materials that have stood the test of time effectively and thoroughly.

Surprisingly, all of the clothing made by Galvin comes across as fashionable and chic, which is not normally what golf clothing is expected to be, even today. This is so even with its waterproof line of clothing, as Galvin takes a lot of time to assess each piece and then consider how it will work when layered in with another piece to provide not only environmental protection but no small amount of fashion.

Along with its use of Gore-Tex as a fabric that can provide extreme weather protection, Galvin has gone to great lengths to include other effective than well-known fabric materials such as Paclite and Insula. Both materials and fabrics are appreciated throughout the golf industry for their ability to help deliver extreme environmental protection. One example is the Galvin Green Akron waterproof jacket.

None of these jackets or other items of clothing are inexpensive by any stretch of the imagination, though it is a sure bet that the golfer who dons something like the Akron will never go without it when it is windy and cold and wet. Made of Gore-Tex fabric that is laminated and completely insulated, the Akron is continually in short supply because it is a very sought-after item of golf clothing.

Galvin Green waterproof golf clothing today is some of the best on the market and also brings a level of style and fashion to a type of clothing that normally isn\’t assumed to be amenable to style and the like. The company manufactures all of its clothing lines to be able to accommodate just about every golfer, too. And though Galvin Green clothing isn\’t cheap, it surely is of extreme quality.

Golf Course

December 8, 2009 by Alex Mirabeau

The game of golf is played on a big piece of land known as golf course. But that piece of land is not as small and flat as that of football. A lot of design goes into the making of a golf course and obviously a lot of money is also required for the same. It is not possible to discuss the layouts aspects of the golf course in the small space of this article, but we can talk about good golf course criteria here in short, keeping in mind that a good golf course should pose enough challenge and thrill of playing golf to the golf player.

While miniature golf courses, which are about the size of one-tenth of regular golf courses, can incorporate fun windmills or other fancied hazards that cannot be built into the design of regular golf courses, the much bigger size of the land and its natural elements like water bodies greeneries etc can be usefully utilized to create fun and challenges into the regular golf course.

Obviously, the first thing you’re going to need is land. I mean, you’re going to need A LOT of land! The golf course must have some long yardage holes as well as some shorter yardage holes. However, most golfers will agree that having mostly longer holes is a great challenge. But they also need those short par 3s for a little ego boost!

Further challenges can be built into the regular golf course by making sand bunkers and placing them on the fairway apart from their normal placement around the holes. This will add extra headache to the golfer with a pinch of extra challenge.

Water bodies can also create enough challenge and sensation to golfers. So apart from natural water bodies like rivers, lakes etc, that are available in regular golf courses, man made water bodies can be incorporated in the design to make the golfers game more adventurous.

Addition of rolling hills in the golf course is one more way to make the game challenging for golfers. A golfer with great drive may have a faulty shot landing on the side of a hill. The ball then sticks there or would roll down the hill adding woes to the golfer creating new challenge.

To complete the golf course environment, natural trees and woods are also added. Indeed, one of the worst things that could happen to a player is to have their ball stuck at a tree. The anticipation of finding out where the ball landed is exciting and fun. Yet another way to use natural elements is to make the sport more challenging.

Designing a golf course can be great fun – for both the designer as well as the player. Take in the natural elements of your favorite golf course and then navigate through those hazards with a positive attitude. Then you’ll be having fun!

Golf Equipment Get What You Need

December 5, 2009 by Alex Mirabeau

When it comes to golf equipment, you have a lot of choices. There are multiple brands and styles of golf equipment that you can use, but it can be confusing as to what you really need to play a good game of golf. Let’s take a look at some of the equipment that most golfers consider essential.

The most basic piece of golf equipment every golfer need to have is a golf club. With lots of choices available in the market today, you can choose one that would suit your individual playing style, thus it is not the same for everyone. Consider the height of the club and ease of handling to be your top criteria when choosing. For beginners, expert advises buying the lighter graphite shafts. In fact, even expert golfers love using it due to the convenience of swinging. Clubs equipped with titanium heads are also much better and is efficient if you tend to commit a lot of bad shots.

Make sure that when you enter into a match to have a full set of golf clubs. The set will consist of a driver, a 3 wood, a 5 wood, 3 to 9 irons, sand wedge, and a putter. This is the basic set that you need to have. If you want, you could consider adding more clubs into your arsenal to expand your skill set. If you want to familiarize yourself with fairway shots, you can also add an iron. In order to get out of a deep rough, you need to use a lob wedge.

In addition to the ones stated above, one important golf equipment is the golf ball. There are different types of balls suitable if you want to focus on achieving distance, improve your spin, or enhance your overall performance. Opt for the softer type of gold balls such as a balata. Another great choice of balls is those with lower compression, which is specifically ideal for beginners.

Joining the list of essential golf equipments is a golf tee. As with the other equipments listed above, this one has several types that will produce its own range of advantages to your game. There are three general types to choose from: (1) short tees that are suitable for tee box iron shots, (2) long tees that enable you to gain higher tees, and (3) three-pronged tees for more stability to your swing. Of all these three types of tees, the three-pronged one is the most common and is widely used during the earlier years of golfing history.

If you like the idea of carrying your clubs around in one bundle, I guess you can just go ahead. However, a golf bag sure makes carrying your clubs around much easier. Plus, with a good golf bag, you can also carry your tees, your balls, some hand sanitizer, snacks, your cell phone, and anything else you think is necessary.

One valuable golf equipment that would increase stability for a player when doing stance prior to executing a swing is a golf shoe. It is important to note that this isn’t like any other types of shoes in the market since the bottom is equipped with cleats. This cleats help to keep you ‘grounded’ as you turn your entire body for a full swing.

There are definitely all sorts of golf equipment that you can buy and use when playing the wonderful game of golf. Just don’t go overboard and concentrate on the basics to begin with. Then when you get better, you can add all of the newest gadgets to your bag and see if that golf equipment will help you lower your score!

Golf Driving Range Can Help More Than You Think

December 4, 2009 by Alex Mirabeau

Driving ranges are a common site in most golf courses. They play an important role in the improvement of your game play such that you need to maximize them whenever possible. Don’t be deceived by the term driving range though, since you are free to practice your golf shots on this range. This is a valuable tool offered to every player and your ability to take full advantage of it is crucial so you can improve your score and your overall chances of winning the game.

Hitting the ball to higher distances is probably the core of any ball game in the open and so is the case with golf. It is an important practice criterion for golf to see how far one can hit out with his club. So this range allows you to gradually develop an ability to use your driver including your 9 iron to hit the ball further and further. Once you can stabilize hitting a certain useful distance, by repeat hits your club produces, then you can move on to the next criteria of golf course management skills when you are out for the real game.

For perfecting the art of driving the ball further, you may start with a bagful of balls. Take various stances and check which stance drives the ball furthest with repeat hits. Repeat hitting balls after balls to find ultimately that you have reasonably mastered the art of distance hitting.

At this point, you must head toward the fairway woods or to your iron. Use the same technique on different clubs. Bringing additional bucket of balls might be essential and you can add more value to your money once you are able to effectively determine which clubs will be able to provide you the most powerful swings and increase the distance of your ball.

Some of the golf courses do have illuminated driving range in the evening after sun down. These golf courses give you an added advantage of practicing your swings in the evening when the regular play is no more possible, thus adding extra useful hours to your workouts.

One point you need to keep in mind when on the golf driving range is that you are playing in perfect conditions. There are no hills, there are no hazards, and you are concentrating to the best of your ability. Just because you can hit a 300 yard drive on the range doesn’t necessarily mean you can do the same on the course.

However, it is undeniable how a driving range can contribute in honing your golf skills to prepare you for an actual game. So, practice as often as you can so you can continually improve. And before you know it, you have seen great improvements to your game, thanks to a golf driving range.

3 Secret Tips to Improve Your Golf Swing Fast

December 2, 2009 by Harry Constantine

Golf is perhaps the latest elite sport and fitness activity to take the fitness circles and sporting enthusiasts by storm. Almost every other person, wants to become a golfing expert or at least an amateur player and it is a good way to meet up with friends and colleagues in the weekends and enjoy yourself, while keeping yourself active.

But even if you aspire to become an amateur weekend club golfer who loves golfing for the pleasure it affords and harbors no ambition of emulating the feats of Tiger Woods, you have to learn a few techniques to improve your golf swing. Otherwise you will become the butt of everybody’s ridicule and be deemed as a social climber or a wannabe socialite. Let us therefore learn a few techniques to improve your golf swing and shut the mouths of your detractors up.

So, what is the right way to do a smooth golf swing transition?

I have often noticed that weekend amateur golfers have this strange tendency of beginning their downswing with a violent and tense motion that completely eliminates any chance of a solid contact. You need to remember that the most critical transition point is the top of the swing that should gently flow down to make a smooth downswing. Let me tell you a good method to improve your downswing. When raising your golf swing to the top think light and lazy. This will help.

Another thing that I have observed is that an amateur golfer tends to use his wrists to swing the club backwards in too quick a motion. As a result, the swing goes off plane and proper extension is reduced. Let me prepare you for a proper takeaway.

Firstly you have to stand in your address position which is normal for you and then behind your club head, you have to drop or place a ball. While initiating the backswing, the ball has to be rolled backward. In this way you have to roll the ball till it shoots past the right foot if you are a right hander.

And if you are able to do this properly, the shoulder on the opposite side will move beneath your chin and you will be able to feel that. And then when you aim the backswing, you will yourself understand or gauge how straight you should keep your left arm.

Other pointers that you need to keep in mind are passing the pole to acquire the maximum consistency and distance, remembering the practice area, getting an improved swing stance, keeping a bucket of balls handy that will also save you much time.
