Make Sure Fire Suppression Systems Are In Place For Your Safety

One reason for strict laws regarding Fire Suppression Systems is because of the lack of sprinkler systems in the MGM hotel in Las Vegas about thirty years. Many people died in that fire that started in one of the hotel restaurant kitchens. There was an area of the hotel that was exempt from fire suppression sprinklers.
The MGM decided not to spend the money to place them there if they did not have to according to the fire code. Many died from not the fire itself but from the smoke inhalation of toxic fumes. The fumes from burning plastic and other synthetics caused a poison gas to rise up the hotel floors.
Today all of Las Vegas has the most strict fire codes in the country if not the world. But if you are not in Las Vegas and you need a hotel room ask some questions regarding the fire safety suppression system. Ask if the hotel has modern and updated suppression equipment around the complete hotel area.
Once you are in your room take a few minutes to read any emergency information such as the route to the nearest stair case. If you hear a fire alarm do not take the elevator down. Instead use the stairs. Know where the fire extinguishers are or where the fire hoses are located. Ask if the smoke detector in your room has been tested recently.
Once in your room. Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the safety procedure in your room information. Find out where the fire exits are. Take a walk now to find them. It is easier to find them now when there is no emergency than later when there is an emergency. Remember never to use an elevator in a fire alarm situation. Always use the stairs to exit. And do not worry about your possessions. Leave your bags behind. Gather your family and make your way out of the hotel quickly but calmly.
The hotel staff will of course not to worry. They will say they have the updated equipment and are within the fire code regulations. But you can also contact the local fire department for more information. They will direct you to the right agency to call for objective information about the hotel. This is your safety you are talking about here after all.
Also, do what most people fail to do. Stay alert in a bar or restaurant that serves alcoholic drinks. People are concerned with drinking and driving as they should be.
But you can take extra precaution for your safety by staying sober when in a bar even if you do not plan to drive at all that night. Stay sober in a bar because if there is a fire emergency you want to be able to find the exits. If you have been drinking in excess and there is a fire you will have trouble making your way to safety.
