How To Read Your Opponent In Poker: A Guide To Common Poker Tells
September 14, 2010 by Norman Bethune

Poker tells are one of the most important aspects of poker and they help to separate poker from other games of luck. When playing poker, it is crucial to observe your opponents in order to pick up on any clues they make inadvertently give away. Poker tells can include any piece of information gathered including voluntary and involuntary movements, verbal cues and behavioural patterns. The best part about tells is that every single poker player has them, and if you observe enough hands closely enough, you will eventually find them. Be careful though, some players try to give off reverse tells to trap you.
The Eyes Reading a player starts with their eyes. Watch how they view the world and you will gain insight into their thoughts. An opponent who glances at their chips immediately after seeing the flop is thinking about betting and likely has a monster. Some players will stare at their hole cards longer than normal when they have a big hand. When the flop comes down and the player stares at the flop as if staring straight through it, they have often missed.
The Hole Cards Double checking the hole cards usually means a weak hand. People don’t often double check big pairs because they remember what it was the first time. Looking away and uninterested after seeing the hole cards is a dead give away for strength. Squeezing out the second hole card sometimes means the first card seen is an ace. Checking the hole cards on a flop that is all the same suited usually implies someone doesn’t have the flush.
Betting Patterns Strong means weak and weak means strong, when someone is bluffing, they feel the need to look strong. If you notice a player forcefully betting his chips, he is probably bluffing. If a player looks and then checks instantly, it’s unlikely that he improved his hand.” When a player at the table takes an unusual amount of time to act, this is generally an indication that he has a big hand. If a player looks at his hand then bets instantly, it is highly unlikely that he is bluffing. As said above, a forceful or exaggerated bet usually means weakness. So what do you think a soft and innocent looking bet means? It almost always indicated that the player has a strong hand.
Chip Stacks Studying how the chips are put out, the amount of bet, whether it is large chips or small chips can give clues to betting tells. Loose aggressive players usually have unorganised stacks while tight conservative players keep neat stacks. Some players keep two stacks in cash games, these type of players will stack their winnings off to the side or in front so they can easily tell how much they are up on the game. If you can determine this, they will be less likely to call a bet which would put them in the red for the game, unless they have a very strong hand. If you ever notice a player winning a large pot, and perhaps may still be stacking their chips from it, they will not play the hand unless they have good cards.
Voice Changes If a player is talking smoothly while in a hand, it means he is not overly concerned about the hand he is playing. This is because he feels comfortable and usually means a big hand. Any speech means strength. Any question directly at your or the dealer means strength e.g. Is it my turn to bet?. An opponent that is acting rude is trying to induce a spite call.
The more you observe at the table, the more tells you can pick up and the better player you will become.

Skill Or Luck – The Game Of Blackjack

Lots of regular gamblers when questioned on their favourite card games would respond with Blackjack. One of the oldest games around the casinos is Blackjack. The age of Blackjack has definitely contributed to it’s popularity amongst today’s gambling population as casino goers try to beat the dealer in an age old game as many generations before them have tried. The popularity of Blackjack is not only confined to the four walls of the card rooms worldwide but is also becoming an internet phenomenon.
I intend to get the bottom of a much talked about gambling issue in this article. Quite simply, is Blackjack a skilful game or simply a lucky drawing game? This topic fills chat rooms as players worldwide debate what is true and what is false. So let us discuss what provides ammunition for both sides of the debate.
The timing of certain moves is what millions of gamblers define Blackjack as a skill game. According to skilful players the timing of doubling down or splitting, or standing or hitting is of upmost importance for Blackjack success. Every regular Blackjack player is familiar with the strategy table which apparently shows what to do and when to do it depending on your cards.
The luck argument is supported by the fact that the cards can provide millions of different combinations and sequences of cards too difficult to predict. This point grabs many peoples attention as the next card even though the law of averages says it must be high, may not be. The consistent inconsistency of cards and never truly knowing the coming card without cheating is what harbours many card players belief that Blackjack is luck.
Card counting is also touted as another possible method of increasing your odds at the tables. Card counting techniques basically require the player to keep a record of fallen cards to increase your odds of successfully predicting the next card. I am positive that if you are a believer in skill or luck you shall be attending the Blackjack rings soon so best of luck.

Joseph Jagger The Famous Roulette Player

Although most players never make it to the big time playing roulette, sometimes there is somebody who breaks the bank and takes a casino down. An example of somebody doing this is Joseph Jagger. Joseph Jagger won over five-million dollars in a small period by exploiting a biased wheel at the Monte Carlo Casino.
In 1873 Joseph Jagger hired six clerks to secretly watch and keep track of the outcome of the roulette wheels at the Monte Carlo. After heaps of data had been gathered he realized that one of the wheels had a very clear bias to some specific numbers.
One of the wheels had a very strong bias towards the numbers 7, 8, 9, 17, 18, 19, 22, 28, and 29 the ball landed on these numbers far more often than the other numbers on the wheel. So he did what any self respecting gambler would do. Jagger walked right into that casino and robbed it blind.
It was July of 1875 when Jagger took his seat at the biased wheel and put a bet down on the number seven. It was only a matter of time before Jagger had made a name for himself. Jagger possessed what every roulette player wishes they possessed a mathematical edge.
Jagger kept betting and betting day after day, all on the number seven. Needless to say he didn’t stop winning. Things then got worse for the casinos because many gamblers saw what Jagger was up to and also started placing bets on seven.
The casino became desperate. They decided that it was in their best interest to try and trick Jagger. They moved all of the roulette wheels. They hoped that this would fool Jagger into losing some of their money. This only worked for a short amount of time.
Jagger however did not spend over a year analyzing data only to be fooled by a table swap. Jagger had cleverly inscribed the correct table with a unique scratch. After a bad day or two he searched the wheel for the scratch and when he did not find it he knew the tables had been swapped. He shortly found the scratched wheel and quickly began winning once more. The casinos then had to one up him again, they began switching and disguising the tables several times on a daily basis.
Jagger’s famous run was then over. Once he realized that he could no longer track the table he packed his bags and left town to never return. He however did take over five-million dollars of winnings with him. The stories of Jagger to this day motivate and inspire gamblers across the world. Perhaps you will be the Joseph Jagger of online roulette.
It’s not realistic to expect similar results to Joseph Jagger when you play roulette online but you should be looking to play it at the best casinos. The Online Roulette King can help you find the best casinos, just click this link: http://www.onlinerouletteking.com
Gamblers Fallacy Does Not Help Roulette Systems
July 30, 2010 by Jordan Burns

There is a certain idea that plagues many gamblers, whether they are new to online roulette or online roulette veterans. This idea single handedly chews through the bankrolls of gamblers and online roulette players across the world, whether they are good or bad, young or old.
The thing you must be fearful of is called The Gambler’s Fallacy. The Gambler’s Fallacy is the number one cause for many gamblers downfalls. The Gambler’s Fallacy is nothing new either; it has been around for as long as mankind has been making bets.
To give you a quick idea of what The Gambler’s Fallacy is imagine that the ball of a roulette wheel has landed on odds several times in a row. Somebody suffering from The Gambler’s Fallacy would then begin betting on evens thinking that the ball is now more likely to land on evens because it has landed on odd so many times already.
The table does not have a memory, and it doesn’t matter what the past spins resulted in. Many people try to use past spins as an indicator for future spins when in reality this does nothing at all. Past spins have no bearing on what future outcomes will be.
What makes The Gambler’s Fallacy so deadly is that if somebody who is not versed in mathematics looks at a simple version of the odds it would appear that there is no fallacy. The math would indicate that no such fallacy exists.
To demonstrate what I mean I’ll give you two examples, one example showing why it might look like there is no fallacy. I will then give another example going deeper into the odds to show that The Gambler’s Fallacy exists for a reason.
For this experiment we need to pretend that there is no zero on the online roulette table, it simply makes the math easier. Picture the ball landing on an even number, the odds of this happening are 50%. Now picture the ball landing on an even number twice in a row, the odds of this happening are less than 50%. This is what makes it look like the ball is more likely to land odd after going even. However if you do the math you will find that the ball going even and then even again is just as likely to happen as the ball going even and then odds.
Now that you know that The Gambler’s Fallacy will steer you the wrong way you can now improve your online roulette play. There’s no reason to let an idea suck away funds from your bankroll. Your bankroll should be for online roulette, not for feeding a gambling horror.
It doesn’t matter which strategy you use, it’s important that you play Online Roulette at the best casinos. The best casinos are the ones with the quick pay out times, one of them is Bet365 Casino

Plus, they can even have extra benefits which can be solely entitled to the high rollers if ever they get to win the game.

The History Of Horse Racing In Britain And America
June 30, 2010 by Damian Papworth
The first man that saw horses running across a flat part of land probably wagered a bet he knew which horse was going to get there first. Once man started to domesticate the horse around 4500 BC in Asia they started to race them and the only people that could participate were kings and the nobles of the area. Horse racing was one of the events during the very first Greek Olympics. This was the beginning of the History of horse racing.
Modern horse racing began after the crusades when the 12th century knights brought Arabian horses back to England with them. Arabians were larger and swifter than the English horse. They returned with stallions that were bred with the English Horse. This made the offspring very strong and able to endure long and hard riding with speed and grace.
A very important race to the history of racing happened in 1752 in a little town of Doneraile in County Cork, Ireland. Here a race was organized from the steeple Buttevant Church to the steeple of St. Marys. This is where the term of steeple chasing began. The first formal steeplechase was in 1839 called the Grand National taking place in Liverpool. Another great steeplechase takes place annually during the weekend of Ester in County Meath, Ireland and is called the Irish Grand National.
Professional horse racing began in England in the nineteenth century. Trained horses ran faster and better. They made their owners much more money than the untrained horses. It was common to train the riders too in order that the horse would win more races and gain more money for the owner. Owners of trained animals and riders began to make a great deal of money and soon decided that the sport had to be regulated if control was to continue. The Jockey Club was formed in 1750 at Newmarket and still has control over all British Racing even to modern times.
The Jockey Club was instrumental in writing down all the rules to which racing adheres to today. It took into consideration the type of tracks horses could race on. It sanctioned five races for three year old horses, three for male and female horses all of which is the English Triple Crown. They also were instrumental in breeding horses for racing purposes. They began to write down the pedigree of all horses born and organized breeding practices.
Pedigreed horses are also called Thoroughbreds can have its lineage traced back to one of 3 Arabian stallions who are called the foundation sires. Thoroughbred racing came over to America on Long Island in 1665. Racing practices were not organized until well after the Civil war when it was considered to be a sport and wagering started to get out of hand. In 1890 over 300 tracks were being run in the United States.
Because there was no real governing authority in America most tracks were run by unscrupulous characters and something had to be done about that. The American Jockey Club was formed in 1894 in order to curb criminal activity in many horse tracks. The damage was already done and unlike horse racing and wagering in England where it was acceptable and done with grace and dignity, American racing and a connotation of being corrupt. Racing in the US was nearly banished by 1900 because of it.
In 1894 the American Jockey Club was organized and developed regulations that they had to strictly enforce. By the time they were done only about 35 tracks remained open. Pari-Mutuel betting was introduced at the 1908 Kentucky Derby in an attempt to save the sport and wagering. This was a way of betting that was considered acceptable and legal on horses that were qualified to race, riders that were met requirements to ride, and owners that had horses with pedigrees and therefore able to race. The sport once again became popular and respectable.
In America and Britain there are several different forms of horse racing. The Steeplechase is very popular in both countries. An American variety of racing called harness racing has many tracks that were specifically built to specifications for that type of racing. Thoroughbred racing is probably the most popular and consists of a flat, oval track from about three fourths of a mile to two miles in length. Both countries have many thoroughbred racing venues from which to choose. Both countries have regulations and rules that make racing and betting acceptable. They also regulate horses that can race and continue to keep a running record of all pedigrees of race horses.

Atlanta Beats Chicago To Improve To 4-1

The Atlanta Falcons didn’t so much win their Sunday Night NFL Football game against the Chicago Bears as much as the Bears lost it. A series of costly mistakes and turnovers in the red zone negated an otherwise solid road effort for the Bears, as Atlanta held on to win 21-14 at the Georgia Dome. Chicago held a decisive edge in most of the statistical categories, but was undone by untimely turnovers.
Chicago also disappointed fans who bet on NFL football by failing to cover the pointspread as +4 road underdogs. Both teams’ ATS records match their straight up records with the Falcons moving to 4-1 against the number while the Bears slumped to 3-2. The 35 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 46. Both teams have now gone UNDER in three of five games this season.
Winning Falcons’ QB Matt Ryan chose to credit his defense rather than point to Chicago mistakes as the determining factor in the outcome:
“Our defense, give them some credit. Our guys stepped up and made some plays when we needed them to.”
The Bears did a good job shutting down Falcons’ star running back Michael Turner. He came through with the game on the line, however, rushing for the winning touchdown with just over three minutes remaining in the game. Ryan praised his running back’s effort:
“Our offensive line did a great job just giving me just enough time to get the ball off, and then Michael Turner did what he does. The offensive line provided a great push and just paved his way.”
The Falcons are now 4-1 for only the fifth time in team history, the last coming in 2004. Despite their solid start, they’re still trying to keep pace with the red hot New Orleans Saints who improved to 5-0 with their win over the New York Giants earlier in the day. On this occasion, the Falcons’ Ryan was outplayed by the Bears Jay Cutler between the twenties but the Atlanta signal caller made all of the right moves in scoring range.
Atlanta can improve to 5-1 and break the mark for best start in franchise history with a win on the road at Dallas next Sunday. That’ll be followed by an even bigger road game, on Monday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints-a contest full of all sorts of implications for the eventual divisional championship in the NFC South. They’ll return home the following Sunday to host the struggling Washington Redskins. The Bears will be back on the road next weekend to take on the Cincinnati Bengals before returning home for games the following two Sundays against the Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals.
