Celebs Swear By Blow-Outs, So What’s The Secret?

What’s the secret to big and bouncy, red carpet-ready hair? All the celebs swear by blow-outs to craft their polished profiles. “They give you such a finished look, star stylist Maxine shares. “You can get a lot of looks from a blow-dry–soft curls, straight or even a tighter curl depending on what brush you use.”

Begin your luxurious pampering routine with damp tresses. “Towel-dry your hair because if it’s too wet, you’re going to spend unneeded time and extra arm strain trying to blow-dry dripping-wet hair,” salon owner Karmen reveals.

Next, you should apply product–volumizing mousse and straightening balm are top picks!–throughout to protect against any heat damage. “Whenever you use products, make sure to evenly distribute them,” Karmen continues. “You can always add more, but if you use to much, you can’t undo it without washing your hair.”

Now, after the tresses are put into different sections, select the correct brush for the desired blow-out look that you want. “A vent brush will give you the smoother look which keeps the hair ends from tucking under, while a round brush will give you a curlier, full look.” Rhonda continues, “If you want a smooth finish, the Denman brush is perfect for this style.”

Starting at the roots and working outward with the brush, strands should be dried in the same direction as the cuticle. “Basically the air should be going down toward the ground so the cuticles are sealing,” Denman says. “You don’t want to rough up the cuticle.” A directional nozzle attachment on the end of your blow-dryer can also be helpful during this step. For a curly look, strands can also be blow-dried in Velcro rollers or set with duckbill clips in order to hold curl.

It is highly recommended to use a diffuser attachment on your blow dryer to maintain your curled look. “With your head upside down, lay the ends of your hair in the cup of the diffuser and move it down and up so it touches your scalp. This is a wonderful technique to form blown-out beautiful curls.”

Finally, continue to dry your hair until it is totally dry. “However, if you are using a diffuser, try to leave about 20 percent of the moisture in the hair”, Leah shares. Hair pros also recommend regular hair maintenance to combat heat styling, and try to use a great conditioning treatment once a week.
